Why Build Incoming Links

Incoming links can help your ranking

One of the search engine marketing practices that I am constantly involved in is building links to websites that I market. This means that I contact other webmasters with websites that may have a similar theme to see if they may want to link to my sites.

Why link building?

Link building is like going out to get votes for your website. Links that point toward your site say to a search engine that your site is worth looking at. Try to think of each link that aims at your site as a "vote." Let's say you are trying to win for the search "link building." All things being equal, the site with the most links pointing to it that say "link building" will win the search. Same thing is true for every site on the net. If you are trying to win for a search, you will do that by having sites point toward your site for those keywords.

Other link building questions:

When I market websites, I have been asked several times about why a site needs to have a links page. My answer is always the same. Having a links page is vital to your search engine ranking. A site with no links to it is a like a candidate with no votes. They will never make it into the office. Just remember in web design, form follows function. If your site can't be found, then it is invisible.
